Teenagers

Meet my future son in law, David Archuleta, American Idol contestant. My 14 year old daughter is in love with him. As I'm typing this she is sitting on the couch watching American Idol drooling over him. Teenagers eh! I admit he's a cute kid and a good singer. My daughter, like every 14 year old goes through these obsessions. Last month it was all about skirts, the month before that it was all about black clothes, next month it will be equestrian clothing. Any idea when these phases ends? Oh, you mean I have a lot more years of this....gee thanks.

The Problems of A Teenager

I've mentioned before about my daughters acne problem. We've decided to give natural acne treatments a try. Heck, we've tried almost everything else, so why not. She has very sensitive skin and is allergic to a lot of soaps and creams so this might be the best option for her. She really wants to have her face cleared up before the big formal dance at the end of June. Oh yeah, we are still searching for that "WOW" dress she wants for the dance.

Acne is A 4 Letter Word

Acne, the dreaded 4 letter word to teenagers. Most teenagers experience acne at some point, but what to do about it? That's my daughters problem, she has been experiencing bad acne for the past couple of years. Heredity is great isn't it, both myself and her father had acne as teenagers, so there was no way she wasn't going to be plagued with it. She has tried everything and has even gotten doctor prescriptions for it, but nothing seems to work. Has anybody else had bad acne and what did you do to help it?

Confessions of a Mother of a Teen Aged Drama Queen

For all you mothers out there of sweet little girls, enjoy it while you can because eventually your sweet little girls grow up to be teenagers. That's when all the real fun begins! You know what I'm talking about, all the Drama Queen stuff. Now I must admit I think my daughter is a great kid, but I might be a little biased. It's the whole "Teen Aged Drama Queen" stuff that drives me batty. I honestly don't remember being such a drama queen when I was her age, but maybe I'm just in denial. What do you think, have teen aged girls become bigger drama queens or am I just missing my sweet little girl who thought the world revolved around her mommy?

The party is at my house. My daughter is having her birthday party tonight, actually today and tonight and tomorrow morning. She has some friends coming home on the school bus with her for a sleepover tonight. There are going to be about 6 teenage girls running around my house giggling all night. I think I have enough stuff to keep them amused and away from my computer. I got the regular movies and snacks stuff. So hopefully my house will still be in one piece in the morning. If I post tomorrow you'll know I survived The Attack Of The Teenagers. LOL!

TEENAGERS

Teenagers, gotta love them! My daughter is about to turn 14, but sometimes I think she is turning 4. She really is a great kid, but sometimes I wonder what she is thinking. When her and her friends get together it is like total chaos in my house. Recently her and her friend were listening to music in her room and instead of just dancing on the floor they decided to dance on the bed. Have you seen how teenagers dance these days, it's more jumping than anything else. Well, I think you can probably guess what happened next. They not only broke the bed, they broke the leg off the bed and what was left of the metal frame of the bed put a hole in the floor. Really, it did! It was actually stuck in the floor and we had to pry the metal leg out of the floor which caused a bigger hole in the floor. Now not only do we have to replace part of the floor she needs a new bed. I wonder if I can get a bed from directbuy that is teenager proof?

SOMETHINGS UP

I think my two sweet innocent children are up to something. We were at the grocery store today and as were were walking by the cheese section when my son asked for some cheese strings. He just turned 3 and the only he usually asks for at the grocery store is cookies. Heck, he doesn't even like cheese strings. His sister is the one who usually asks for cheese strings. I grab a package, but he didn't want that type, he wanted the expensive ones his sister likes. I knew something was up right there. To top it off all day long my daughter kept saying that she loves her little brother. Oh yeah, something is definitely up, they're being way too nice to each other.

JEWELRY IS A TEEN AGED GIRLS BEST FRIEND

You all know the saying diamonds are a girls best friend, but when it comes to my daughter it doesn't have to be diamond it just has to be jewelry. That girl has more jewelery than I do. Every time we go out anywhere she wants to go to Claire's, her favorite jewelry store, to get a new necklace or earrings. At this rate I am going to have to start buying wholesale fashion jewelry just to be able to afford it. Oh the joys of raising a teen aged daughter.

MY LIFE WITH A TEEN AGED DRAMA QUEEN

Forget watching Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen, if you want to know what it's like living with a teen aged drama queen just ask me. I swear every time I turn around my 13 year old daughter have some sort of drama in her life, stupid teen aged drama. It's really starting to drive me batty! There is not a week that goes by without one of her friends being mad at another one for some silly reason and everybody has to be involved in it. I keep telling her to mind her own business and don't let it worry her, but you know teenagers, everything is the end of the world to them. Today she told me she wants to change school and she hates all her friends. After about an hour and a half dozen phones calls later everything is fine now, she loves her friends again. Life wasn't this complicated when I was a teenager. I'm dreading her starting high school next year because I know the drama is just going to get worse. Hmmm....maybe home schooling the answer. Yeah right, like she would go for that!

NUMBER 1 RULE FOR COMPUTERS

I've discovered the number 1 rule for computers, NEVER EVER EVER let your teen aged daughter and her friend use your computer! When I got up this morning my daughter and her friend were on my computer, her father told her it was okay for her and her friend to use it. About five minutes later I heard, "Uh-oh! Mom something is wrong with the computer!" I have no idea what they did, but it wouldn't let me access any internet websites. It took all day to fix it and I never would have been able to fix it if my husband hadn't called his friend and asked him what to do. Thanks D, you are my computer hero! Needless to say I don't think my daughter or her friends will ever be allowed to touch the computer again.

ANOTHER DANCE

It's not a holiday here in Canada, but there is no school tomorrow due to Parent/Teacher meetings. My teen aged daughter has a dance tonight and two of her friends are here getting ready for the dance with her. I have to pick them up after the dance and they are spending the night here. I expect it to be a loud night here with all the giggles and laughing. Where did I put those ear plugs???

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

There was no school today as the teachers had meetings so I took my teenager and toddler Christmas shopping with me. Not really one of my most brilliant moments, but they had a good time. The stores weren't as busy as I expected them to be, but I'm sure that will change tomorrow as it'll be Saturday. Aurora picked out some clothes she liked for Christmas and some how talked me into buying her a new CD. Aidan wanted everything he saw, but ended up with a new Thomas The Tank Engine book. Aurora actually bought it for him with the left over money she had from the money I gave her to buy the CD. I thought that was really sweet of her, I expected her to keep the money. Some days she just amazes me with her kindness to her little brother. I'm sure that will all change when he gets old enough to torment her.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION

My daughter got the video game Dance Dance Revolution today and we all tried it out. Man it is difficult to do! I kept missing the steps, but Aurora had a blast with it. Although it is a video game, it is basically a form of exercise. Think of Twister really fast with music. With winter fast approaching the urge to hibernate coming on hopefully this game will keep her active and fit this winter.

Aurora showing her mother how it's done!

AND SO IT BEGINS...

My 13 year old daughter has a Halloween dance Thursday night and she doesn't want to wear her ghost costume so I said I would make her something different for the dance. She said she wants to be a school girl in a school uniform. I thought, no problem, she can just wear her plaid skirt, a white shirt and a tie. Heck I didn't need to do anything. This is what I though she wanted to look like. WRONG!This is what she really wanted to look like.

Yeah right! I told her there was no way on Earth that she would be allowed to go out in public looking like that!!! I could just hear my mothers voice coming out of my mouth. "That's not appropriate, you can't wear that, put some clothes on!" This must be what my mother went through raising four daughters. We did compromise a bit, I told her I would hem her skirt up to her knees and she would be allowed to go to the dance as a school girl not an extra in a Britney Spears video. I guess it's begun, the fight over her clothes. I wonder who's gonna win, please let it be me!!!

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRLS

I have a certain view on 13 year old girls and make up and that is "LESS IS BEST". I don't mind my daughter wearing lip gloss or even a little bit of eye shadow, but when I say a little bit I mean a little bit. My daughter and her friend went to a Youth Fun Night at the church hall tonight. There is games, music, food and friends so it should be a fun safe evening for her. My daughter had a little bit of clear lip gloss on and a little bit of light purple eye shadow on. I thought she looked good, but her friend was a different story. She looked a little like Elvira. No really she did!!! I couldn't talk her out of the dark lip stick or the dark eye liner, but I did talk her into changing into one of my daughters shirts. She still looked a little rough, but she's a really good kid just going through a faze. I can't wait until they go through the faze of wanting to help clean the house... what do you mean they don't go through that faze?

TEENAGERS

My teen aged daughter has a 5 day weekend and her and her friend are driving me batty already. Why do they have to watch Much Music with the volume turned up so loud that you can hear all the way on the other side of the house? It's not that I hate music videos... alright maybe I do, but does she need to have them turned up so loud! O-kay, I just kicked them out of the living room and made them go into her bedroom, but I could tell they weren't happy about it. All I want is one hour of peace and quite and then they can have the living room back. I can't have been this annoying when I was a teenager.

SHE LIKES DORA

My teen aged daughter likes Dora, but she won't admit it. She has actually said that she thought it was a "pointless" cartoon, but it's been a front. I think she actually likes Dora! I caught her watching Dora with the little kids and she had a big dumb grin on her face. When I questioned her about it, she gave me the "mother don't be lame" look and got up and walked away. She can't fool me though, she likes Dora, but 13 year olds have a reputation to up hold. I guess she is just too cool to admit she likes Dora. Oh well, this will just be our little secret. We'll still think she's cool. (She is going to give me another one of her looks when she reads this.)

CRASHED OUT

My daughter had quite a weekend. First she went to her very first rock concert and then the next night she went to a cowboy camp out. On Friday night she went to a Billy Talent concert and she said it ROCKED! She also said the lead singer took his shirt off and sprayed the audience with water. She had an amazing time. That night she slept over at her friends house. The next day they went to a cowboy camp out with a bunch of people in the community that own horses. They all went to a field with their horses and had an old fashioned cowboy camp out. Unfortunately three of the horses got loose in the middle of the night and had to be rounded up. When I picked her up this afternoon she was exhausted. She took a shower, ate supper and fell asleep on the couch watching cartoons with her little brother at 6:30 pm. At 7 pm I woke her up and sent her to bed. She probably won't wake up until it's time to get up for school in the morning. Oh the hard life of a teenager!

SCREAMING LIKE A GIRL

My teenage daughter has been on this horror movie kick for a long time now. Last night we watch "Dead Silence" with a friend of hers and I have never laughed so much in my life, not at the movie mind you , but at the girls. For someone who is suppose to be a horror movie freak she screams like a little girl at the scary parts, and the movie wasn't that scary! It's about a dummy that is possessed by it's dead owner. It's a little freaky, but I didn't think it was really scary. "The Messenger" was a scary movie for me. It's about a little boy that sees evil spirits at his new house. I have a little boy so it kind of freaked me out. I asked my daughter what her top five favorite horror movies were and they are as follows:

  1. Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy Kruger will always rule as the ultimate nightmare.
  2. Dead Silence - The not so scary one to me that we watched last night.
  3. The Ring - It kind of makes you weary to watch TV.
  4. Saw - These movies are just gory.
  5. The Grudge - Pretty freaky movie if I do say so.

What's your favorite horror movie?
