Be Heart Healthy

We all know the old saying "like father like son", but in my family it's more like "like son like father". My husband had an aortic valve replacement done in June, and now tomorrow his father is going to be having the exact same surgery. Once again I will be spending the day waiting in the hospital operating room waiting area drinking filter coffee and worrying.

It's safe to say that heart disease runs in my husbands family. Because of this our children are at risk also. There are ways though to help decrease your risk of a stroke and heart disease. These include eating healthy, being physically active, managing your stress, not smoking, having a healthy cholesterol level, being at an appropriate weight, and avoiding alcohol. You can find more of these tips and more information about heart disease and stroke at the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
