They Grow Up So Fast

It seems like it was only a little while ago I was dolls for my daughter, then all of a sudden I was looking for acne treatments that work. Our children seem to grow up so fast. Now I'm helping my daughter look for a prom dress. She is only in grade 11, but her boyfriend of 3 years is graduating this year and although it is only still February it seems like prom is all her and her friends are talking about. I am very excited about helping her pick out a prom dress, but it got me to thinking the next special occasion dress I will be helping her pick out is her wedding dress. It seems like she is growing up so fast. I am very proud of her. She is an amazing girl who is smart, kind, and always has something nice to say about everyone. I guess I just miss my little girl sometimes.

Our children grow up very fast and before you know it they are adults. Take the time to enjoy your children while they are still little because they won't be little forever.

Nice 'N Easy Color Blend Foam Review

Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you don't want to look good. One of the things I do dye my hair. Yes, I do have a few gray hair and I use hair color to cover my gray. Clairol has just released a new type of hair color called Nice 'N Easy Color Blend Foam. It states "You'll get tones and highlights with 100% grey coverage—drip-free!".

I tried it last night and it was not what I expected. Because it is called "foam" I assumed it was like hair mousse and it wasn't. It was more like the hand foam soap. It was watery, but it didn't drip like regular hair dye. Even though it didn't drip it was still very messy and I got it everywhere.

Although Nice 'N Easy Color Blend Foam was messy it I might use it again because I really liked the full coverage and color it achieved, just next time I will get someone to help me do it and hopefully it will be less of a mess with someone helping me.

Pet Insurance For You Dog Or Cat

I always had pets while growing up. I enjoyed this and have allowed my children to have pets also. I think a child having a pet is a good idea as it teaches them responsibility. My children have a dog and two cats. They each have certain responsibilities they have to do to take care of them and they seem to enjoy doing them. Okay maybe not so much cleaning out the litter box, but since they realize the cats are their pets they have to take care of them and that includes cleaning out the litter box. Although we do take care of the costs of food, supplies, and pet insurance, my children love their pets so much they often use their own money to buy treats for them like dog bones and kitty snacks.

The costs of having a pet can be expensive not only due to daily supplies, but also vet bills. Because vet bills can be so expensive we have both cat and dog insurance on our pets. This way we know if something happens to the kids pets we will be able to take them to the vet without having to worry about the cost. Pet insurance for your dog or cat can cover a wide range of things depending upon which level of coverage you want. These things can include:

Vet's Fees
Death
Boarding Kennel/Cattery
Holiday Cancellation Information
Loss by Theft or Straying
Advertising and Reward
Accidental Damage
Public Liability
Personal Accident

You can find more information about pet insurance dogs and for cats at www.pet-insurance.co.uk.

Pink Shirt Day

Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 23rd, is Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day was started in 2007 when two Nova Scotia high school students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, took a stand against bullies who picked on a boy who wore a pink shirt to school. The bullies threatened the boy and called him names for wearing a pink shirt. David and Travis went to a discount store and bought 50 pink shirts and emailed all their classmates to join in on their anti-bullying campaign they called "a sea of pink". The next day hundreds of students showed up at school wearing pink clothes showing their support and taking a stand against bullying.

Take a stand against bullying by wearing a pink shirt tomorrow!

More information about Pink Shirt Day can be found here at www.PinkShirtDay.ca and you can read the original CBC news report here.

Easy Kraft Dinner Casserole

I usually post recipes for desserts and sweets and if you tried them all you might have to worry about finding natural diuretics. This time I thought I would post a meal recipe.

Kids love Kraft Dinner, but did you know that you can take a simple box of Kraft Dinner and make a nutritious casserole with it that your whole family will enjoy?

Make one box of Kraft Dinner according to the directions on the package. Add to it one can of cream of mushroom soup, one can of drained tuna, and one can of peas. Mix thoroughly and place in greased casserole dish. Top with your favorite cheese and bake at 350 degrees until cheese melts and bubbles.

A way to make the meal even healthier is by using whole wheat Kraft Dinner.

Making Your Child's Clothes Last Longer

Kids seem to grow like weeds. It's like there's hgh in their juice or something because it seems like all the clothes they got a few months ago for Christmas are small for them, especially the length in the leg. Don't worry, your child is just going through a growth spurt. And although there is nothing you can do about it, you can do something to make their clothes last a little longer. One thing I do with my sons pants is when I hem them up I hem them up a little longer then they should be. You can also leave extra material in the hem so you can take the hem down when you find they are too short for them.

How To Treat A Fever

It has all happened to us, you could be on the computer researching seo moz reviews, cleaning your home, or sleeping in the middle of the night, when you child comes to you telling you they feel sick. You put your hand on their forehead and realize they have a fever. Life as you know it gets put on hold and you worry about your child.

A fever is basically they body's way of fighting an infection, but how do you treat a fever?

  • Giving a bath in slightly warm water or sponging your child is not really helpful. It can cause the child to shiver and this causes their temperature to go up instead of down. It does not feel very good either. *NEVER use alcohol rub to cool your child.
  • Drinks with caffeine in them like colas, tea, or coffee can make them pee more and lose more fluid, so they should NOT be given to your child. Give them lots to drink because high fevers can cause your child to lose fluids and become too dry. It is best to give water, soup, Popsicle's, and Jell-O.
  • You can treat the fever with acetaminophen, (Tylenol, Tempera, store brand acetaminophen) if your child feels uncomfortable or their temperature is above 38.5C (101F). Follow package directions or speak to your local pharmacy.
  • You may give ibuprofen (Children's Motrin or Children's Advil) instead. It does not have to be given as often. It is given every 6 to 8 hours. You should give 5mg/kg if your child is under 2 years old and less than 10.8kg. If your child is older than 2 years give 10mg/kg.
  • Do not give aspirin (A.S.A.) to anyone under 21 years old.
  • Your child loses heat through their skin, so dress them in clothes that are not too warm. If they complain of being cold or are shivering, cover them with a thin blanket.
  • Have them play quietly without running and jumping.

Safe And Secure Websurfing

I spent most of the day fixing my daughters laptop. When she's using it I often hear "Oh oh.....Mom!" because of viruses, pop-ups, and other bad stuff you can come across the internet. I decide it was time to install some extra stuff on my daughters laptop because of this. She has a firewall and anti-virus program on her computer already, but sometimes that doesn't stop it. Because she's a teenager she goes to a lot of different websites and she doesn't know if they are a safe website to visit until after she gets there. I use WOT a Firefox add-on on my computer to help weed out the bad websites and I decided it was time to install it on her laptop as well.

It's a great little add-on that can let you know if the website you are going to is safe or not. So no matter if you are searching for m drol reviews or simply looking for a game to play on your computer WOT can help let you know if the website is safe and secure for your computer.

Camera Critters #150

Camera Critters is a weekend meme, about what else but critters, created my very own BBFF, Misty.

This may not be one of my best pictures, and I don't think I'll be printing it out on my brother printers, but I do think this picture says something to me. It says even the cat thinks it's about time to take down the Christmas lights! In my defense though the snow is so deep, up to my thighs, that I can't get at the cords to take them down. I can't wait for Spring, and hopefully by then the Christmas lights will be down.

GeoPalz Review

One of the most popular ways of exercising now is simply walking. You don't need any fancy and expensive equipment to do it, all you need is a pair of comfortable shoes. A great way to keep track of how much you walked is by using a pedometer. By using it you can set goals for yourself and it makes you more aware of how much walking you do or do not do in a day. Because walking is such an easy and extremely inexpensive a lot of adults have added walking to their exercise regime, even at work. Adults aren't the only ones who can benefit by walking, it's a great and easy exercise for kids to do to! Because of cut backs to schools many children do not have or have been cut back on their gym class and with so many electronics out there vying for kids attention many kids do not get enough physical activity they should everyday. Walking is a great solution to this and with the help of GeoPalz it can be fun too!

About -

The GeoPalz activity tracker is the first decorative pedometer and online game that tracks your child’s physical activity throughout the day – and encourages kids to get on their feet and get active, helping to prevent inactivity and childhood obesity. And the cool and unique thing about GeoPalz….kids walk to win! For every mile the child achieves with GeoPalz, it counts as one pedpoint when the GeoPalz is registered online. The child can manually enter his or her steps online and once the points start to add up, he or she can use the points to redeem fun, activity-focused prizes, such as baseballs, jump ropes, Frisbees and gift cards to popular stores like Target.

It comes in many fun styles to chose from.

My thoughts -

The GeoPalz is fun and a great way to get your kids to exercise. It is aimed for young children and tweens, but my teen aged daughter claimed the one we have and has used it every day while she's at school. When she comes home she shows me just how much she walked and tries to get a higher count everyday. I think this is amazing because my teen aged daughter tends to sit around at lunchtime at school and hang with her friends, but because of the GeoPalz she gets her friends to walk around the school with her so not only is she getting exercise, but so is her friends. Another great thing about the GeoPalz is the website. After your child registers their GeoPalz they enter the amount they walked everyday and the points add up and they can trade them in for some fun prizes. This too is a little incentive for them to exercise more and what kid doesn't like a reward!

The GeoPalz is a great and fun way to get your child to exercise simply by walking. You can purchase a GeoPalz at www.geopalz.com for $19.99.

How Horse Insurance Can Help You

I live in the country and I grew up on a small farm. Because of the time in my youth that I spent taking care of animals I know just how important proper care of animals are and how expensive it can be to not only take care of their daily needs, but also the expenses that arise if something happens to the animal.

My favorite animal we had as a child would have to be our horse, Chico. When it comes to horses they can not only be very expensive to buy and maintain, but also very expensive if something happens to the horse. This is where horse insurance can help. Horse insurance is basically what it sounds like, insurance for your horse. Horse insurance can range from basic insurance such as life and theft to more comprehensive insurance such as veteran horse insurance. Veteran horse insurance covers such things as vet fees and dental coverage for your horse.

You invest some much time, money, and love into your horse it only makes sense to get horse insurance, especially veteran horse insurance so you are able to afford to take care of them if they get sick or have an accident.

Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight Review

Coghlan's has an amazing selection of camping accessories and outdoor gear. They even have a great selection of kids products. We recently got the Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight and it is such a fun and useful product for kids.

About Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight -

When you’re a kid every insect, plant, and piece of nature is fascinating. The new Kid’s Bug-Eye Headlight from Coghlan’s encourages the budding scientist in children. The Bug-Eye Headlight is compact, lightweight and powered by a bright white LED that never needs replacing. The light also features a comfortable elastic head strap in a fun purple and yellow color combination.

What We Thought Of It -

Kids love playing with flashlights and the Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight is the perfect light for your child to use. I was very impressed with it. Not only is it actually a bright LED flashlight, but it is comfortable to wear and easy to use as the on/off switch is located at the top of the light.

My son is 6 years old and loves his Bug-Eye Headlight! He wore it all day when we first got it. The first thing he did after he put it on was run into his room and looked under his bed for lost toys. Then he turned off all the lights in the house and walked around pretending to be on an adventure. He then used it to make shadow puppets on the wall. My son said he can't wait for summer to come so he can use it when we go camping, when he catches fireflies, and when he looks for nightcrawlers (they are big worms him and his father uses for fishing).

The Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight comes with an adjustable elastic headband so that it will fit various ages and come with batteries. I checked to see the price of the batteries so that we would have extra ones and I found them at my local Dollar Store.

You can purchase Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight at Dick Sporting Goods or Cabella’s stores and the MSRP is $8.98. It's a great price for a great outdoor product that your child is going to have loads of fun and adventure with!

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day to all! It is one day of the year when you show your sweetheart just how much you love them. This can be done by giving them a gift of flowers, chocolates, a present, or a romantic dinner.

It's easy for men on Valentines Day because thinking what to give the women in their life usually consists of simply getting the old standards of flowers or chocolates, but when it comes to a woman getting their husbands Valentines Day gift it can be a little harder. Most men do not like flowers and aren't that excited about getting a box of chocolates so us women have to think of something different to get them. An easy way to find out what to get your hubby for Valentines Day is to think what they like. If they are into fishing then a new rod would be great or if they are into gold then a gps golf unit would be a great gift. Just remember though, it doesn't matter what you get them, as long as it's from the heart is all that really matters.

Saltwater Taffy Book Review

Have you ever read a book and think to yourself that this would make a good movie? After I finished reading Saltwater Taffy I couldn't help myself from thinking that this would make a great kids movie! It's full of action, adventure, friendship, and much more.

About the book -

Saltwater Taffy
  • Eric DelaBarre (Author)
  • R.C. Nason (Illustrator)
  • Distributed by Perseus
  • Publication date: January 11, 2011
  • This is a Young Adult / Middle Grade work of fiction.
  • Endorsed by 9 Teachers of the Year! See their endorsements and others' below.
  • Written by Eric DelaBarre, an award winning Hollywood Director/Writer of Law& Order fame and author of Why Not: Start Living Your Life Today
  • Illustrated by R.C. Nason, a professional artist for more than twenty years, is the recipient of the Hans Christian Anderson Award for Thumbelina. Rob has worked with companies including 20th Century Fox, Harper Collins, Hallmark and Sony.
  • Endorsed by Teachers of the Year around the country, DelaBarre’s Saltwater Taffy follows the lives of five friends as they uncover a treasure map that once belonged to the ruthless New Orleans pirate, Jean Lafitte. The discovery thrusts them from one treasure hunting adventure to the next as they try to out-wit, out-think and out-maneuver everyone from the one-legged junk-yard man and an overbearing town bully, to the creepy old man living at the top of the hill. Saltwater Taffy is a race to-the-finish adventure that grabs the reader and never lets go.

My thoughts -

Saltwater Taffy is about a young boy and his friends and the adventures they face on a town treasure hunt to find the lost treasure of Jean Lafitte, but what I think most importantly the book is about is friendship. Friendship is the most important thing in life, even more important than a treasure chest filled with gold and this book teaches children just that. Not only did I read Saltwater Taffy, but also my 16 year old daughter and my 12 year old nephew and we all agree that this is a great book. My daughter, like me liked the fact that although the book was filled with adventure it was about friendship. When I asked my nephew what he thought of the book he went on and on about the adventure part. When I asked him what he thought about the friendship part of it and how the book showed how important friendship was he said he didn't notice that it's what it was about, but when I questioned him further about it he knew exactly what the book was talking about and how important friendship really is. I love the fact that he learned a valuable lesson about life without even realizing he was and isn't that the best way to learn ...... to be entertained by something and learn while you are at it without even knowing it.

Saltwater Taffy is a great book and although it is aimed toward tweens I think people of all ages will enjoy it. I know it's going on my bookshelf for when my 6 year old is a little bit older for him to read.

Saltwater Taffy can be purchased online from it's website here, Amazon, Borders, and check your local bookstore for a copy.

ProActive Comfort Pillow Review

I'm the type of person when I find something I like I use it until it falls apart. This is even true with my pillow. I've had the same pillow for about 10 years. I know, that's a long time to use the same pillow, and because I've used it for so long it's been falling apart for a while now. I've had to sew and re-sew it numerous times. The reason I've kept this same pillow is because no matter how many different types of other pillows I've tried I couldn't find one that I liked. They all were either too fluffy, they fell flat too soon, or I ended up with a neck cramp in the morning. I was stuck with my old falling apart pillow because none measured up to it, that is until I got a ProActive Comfort Pillow.

The ProActive Comfort Pillow is my newest best friend. Not only do I get a good nights sleep, it remains soft yet firm so that it doesn't fall flat. It has a neck cradle that helps the pillow stay just where it's supposed to when tossing and turning in the night. My husband has told me on occassion, although I deny it, that I snore and with the ProActive Comfort Pillow neck cradle allows me to be comfortable while sleeping on my side so that snoring is not an issue.

ProActive Comfort Pillow Features:

• Super comfortable ViscoFresh memory foam – the ultimate luxury in sleep comfort
• Neck cradle for back sleepers positions the body for maximum airflow and reduced snoring (YES! Snoring!)
• Neck contour design for side sleepers perfectly aligns the body with room for the shoulder – unparalleled support and comfort nearing sleep nirvana
• Ventilation from top to bottom creates the ideal, refreshing sleep temperature
• Green tea formula is eco-friendly and sniff-worthy
• Crowd-pleasing curves still fit easily into your standard pillowcase

As mothers we all know that sleep is often a luxury for us. Between children waking up in the night, stress, and work getting a good nights sleep isn't something we take for granted. With the help of ProActive Comfort Pillow getting a good nights sleep is a lot easier.

The ProActive Comfort Pillow would make a perfect gift for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day and can be purchased online from Sleep Studio at this link http://www.sleepstudio.com/products/proactive-comfort-pillow for $69.99. Although it may be a little bit more than a regular brand name pillow trust me as a often sleep deprived mom it is worth every penny!

Simple Sponge Bob Mittens

It seems like I'm constantly knitting mittens. My six year old has a habit of losing them at school. While I was going through my yarn to make yet another pair for him he asked me if this time I could make him a pair of Sponge Bob mittens. I didn't have a pattern for Sponge Bob mittens, but I did have yellow yarn so I figured I would give it a try and these is what they turned out to look like.

For the main mitten I simply used a regular mitten pattern all in yellow. I then crocheted circles for eyes with black and white yarn. For the nose I simply knitted 7 stitches in a stocking stitch 4 rows long and sewed it up to look like a roll. I then stitched a mouth on with red yarn.

It's a pretty basic Sponge Bob, but my son is very happy with them and hasn't lost them yet.

Posting

Updating on posting this week has been at a minimal. That is because between snow storms and sickness I've had my hands full. Fortunately the snow has stopped and it's almost all cleaned up and due to sickness I've lost the 5 pounds I've gained over the Christmas holidays. Looking at my scales and seeing that I lost the five pounds almost makes being sick for so long worth it. Almost.

Posting will resume to regular schedule next week. Thank you all for bearing with me and come back next week for new posts. Until then I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
