Camera Critters #147

Camera Critters is a weekend meme, about what else but critters, created my very own BBFF, Misty.

It looks like Alex the turtle is hiding from something. I wonder what it could be?

Oh, that's it! He trashed his tank and now he thinks he's going to get in trouble so he's hiding.

Just look at the mess he made! He knocked everything over, even his floating shelf. That's it, it's time out for you mister!

Snow Days

It's yet another snow day. It seems like every week there is a storm and school is canceled. It's one of the perks of winter if you're a kid. Being a parent snow day means finding ways to keep your children entertained. Sure they can watch movies and play video games on the xbox 360, but you can also turn a snow day into a family day by spending the day or part of the day reading, baking, and doing crafts with your child. Why not read a story to them about a snowman, make snowball cupcakes, or make some winter crafts. Snow days don't just have to be sleeping in day being lazy days, it can also be quality time with your children days.

Smart Canucks

I love coupons! Who doesn't love to save money and in this economy saving every penny you can is a must. I've posted before about some great coupons and coupon sites, and this time I'm going to tell you about a great one for us Canadians. It's called Smart Canucks and it's tells you about freebies, coupons, great buys, and contest in Canada. I love this website, but what I like most about it is the local forums. It's a great place to find out where the deals are in your area. Users log into the forum and post what's they got on sale at stores in your town. It's a great way to find out what's on sale without having to go store to store and find out in-store specials that aren't advertised.

If like your Canadian like me and want to find some great coupons and deals then check out Smart Canucks!

This is not a sponsored post and no form of compensation has been given. I simply wanted to let all my Canadian readers know about this great place to find deals at.

Winter Trick On A Cold Day

A friend of mine pointed this video out to me and since it's been so cold out that I had to try it for myself and it works! The kids thought it was the neatest thing ever! It was like magic to them! All you need for this winter trick is a cup of boiling water and some very cold weather. Watch the video and find out just what happens.

I don't live in Yellowknife like the person in the video, but I do live in Canada and it does get cold enough often here to do this. It's works best when it's about -30 Celsius.Have fun trying it at your house and amaze your kids!

Pizza Night

Kids love pizza! They love eating it and they love making it as well. We like to make our own pizza instead of ordering one from delivery and the brand that we use to make our own pizza is Kraft Pizza Kit.

The Kraft Pizza Kit comes with the dough mix, pizza sauce, spice toppings, and parmesan cheese for topping. The kids don't really like the parmesan cheese topping and so what we do is get some mozzarella cheese for it instead.

The kids really enjoy creating their own pizza with their own toppings that we buy as well. Not only is it fun for the kids, but this way they get the pizza just the way they like.

Shoveling Snow

Winter time is a magical time of year. It's the time of year where white fluffy stuff falls from the sky and some how magically transforms itself into hours and hours of physical labor. I'm talking about shoveling snow!

Shoveling snow can be a great form of exercise, but if done incorrectly it can cause back problems and even lead to serious back damage that can cause you to have to file for disability insurance.

Here are some helpful tips for how to shovel snow.

  • Stretch & Warm up - Shoveling snow is exercise so make sure you stretch and warm up before you start.
  • Dress for the weather - it's winter so make sure you dress warmly and in layers so if you do get too hot from all the shoveling you can take a layer off.
  • Often & Early - Don't wait until there is a foot of snow on the ground. It's better for you to shovel a couple of times shoveling a little at a time then shoveling a lot at once.
  • Push - Push the snow instead of lifting it so it will not cause a strain on your back.
  • Use your legs - When you do have to lift your shovel full of snow lift with your legs not your back.
  • Small is better - Using a too large shovel will make it harder to shovel. A smaller shovel will be easier to lift and push.

How To Wring Out Clothes

Boy it's been one of those days! I have a pile of laundry to do and the belt in my washing machine broke. Unfortunately I am unable to get a new belt today. I'm crossing my fingers my fix-it man will be able to get me one in the next few days, but until then it's hand washing for me.

The problem with hand washing isn't the washing of the clothes, it's the wringing them out that's the problem. Sure it's easy to wring out t-shirts and logo embossed socks, but have you ever tried to wring out a pair of jeans? It's not easy! In fact at the end of it your hands are red and sore from wringing. I have a great way to help you wring out clothes though. Place a large thick towel down, place the jeans on top of the towel, and tightly roll up the towel like it was a sleeping bag. The towel takes a lot of the excess water out of the jeans and you can simply throw the damp towel in the dryer with the jeans to dry.

This is a great method to save time and your hands while wringing out clothes!

The First Parent

Whenever your kids are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to his kids. After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing God said to them was: "Don't."

"Don't what?" Adam asked. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit", said God. "Forbidden fruit? Where is it?", Adam and Eve asked, jumping up and down excitedly. "It's over there," said God, wondering why he hadn't stopped after making the elephants. A few minutes later God saw the kids having an apple break and he was very angry. "Didn't I tell you not to eat that fruit?" the First Parent asked. "Uh huh," Adam replied. "Then why did you do it? " God asked exasperatedly. "I dunno," Adam answered.

God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed. But there is a reassurance in this story. If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give your children wisdom and they ignore it, don't be so hard on yourself. If God had trouble handling his children, what makes you think you can do better than HIM?

Vitamins

It's a new year and many of us have started a diet. Some have failed and some are still giving it their best. My problem with dieting is that I tend to watch what I eat a little too closely and that results in me not getting the proper nutrients my body needs everyday. Because of this I take vitamins to make sure my body gets what it's missing out of my diet.

Even if you are not dieting it's good to take a daily multi-vitamin. Let's face it, we all can't eat all the foods on the food guide everyday because life is so rushed. You can click here to find out more about vitamins or you can ask your pharmacist what vitamins are right for you.

Wearing Eyeglasses can be Cool!

Your kids or teens need glasses and whatever you do, you cannot get them to pick out eyeglasses frames because they think that wearing eyeglasses is nerdy and that the other kids will make fun of them. Now what?

First, go online and find pictures of celebrities who wear glasses for fun or for fashion purposes. It reinforces that wearing eyeglasses frames doesn’t have to be a negative thing and even stars frequent eyeglasses stores in order to correct their vision. Afterwards, make trying glasses online fun! Utilize a virtual mirror to show them that even retro eyeglasses can look cool.

With the hundreds of funky designer eyeglasses and even some not-so well known brands your kids could use their glasses to make a statement about who they are - switching their presumed glasses-wearing-”geekiness” into “the cool thing” to do. For kids who prefer a toned down look, aim for rimless eyeglasses because they blend into the face.

Going online can save you hundreds of dollars and you get discount eyeglasses for a fraction of the price. And there is no need to be concerned about the quality because the discount glasses and prescription lenses you find online are manufactured at the same factories as those frames from optical stores - only there are no hidden costs.

Buying eyeglasses is now an affordable purchase! GlassesUSA.com is offering momknowseverything.com readers 10% off their next purchase of prescription glasses when they use the code: Mommy10.

Harry Potter Movie Weekend

My daughter loves the Harry Potter movies and we decided this weekend we would have a Harry Potter movie weekend. We are going to to get lots of treats, get our pajamas on and watch all the Harry Potter movie DVD's. For treats she wanted to have Harry Potter themed treats. I wasn't quite sure how to find chocolate frogs, but I did find a frog shaped chocolate mold in which I made some chocolates in, are also going to have licorice wands and I did get some flavored jelly beans too. The one thing she really wanted that I was missing was butterbeer, but thanks to google I found this recipe for butterbeer on the Fox News website. The recipe sounds really good, but a little on the fattening side. I'm just going to enjoy spending quality time with my daughter, and the butterbeer of course, and worry about finding weight loss pills that work later.

Snow Day

Because it's winter it's bound to happen, a snow day! Remember when you were a little kid and you were so excited when school was canceled because of a snow day. Now that we are parents we are not so excited when it's a snow day, but just because it's a snow day doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it.

Usually by the afternoon in a snow day the bad weather has stopped and you can enjoy the wonderland of snow outside with your kids. Playing in the snow may not be the best fat burning exercises, but it is still good exercise and best of all you get to spend some quality time with your kids. Grab you hat and mittens, bundle up your kids and go build a snowman or go sliding with your kids. It's a great way to spend quality time with your children and to make lasting memories.

Jobs For WAHM

You've been a stay at home mom for a while, but now that your children are older and in school you are looking for something to help fill up your day. You don't really want to get a part time job that will take you away from your house just in case of an emergency. There are lots of jobs you can do from your home that will either not take you away from your home or take you away from your home a minimal amount of time. Besides the obvious jobs like a child care provider, AVON sales rep, dog walker, and such I found a great website that lists some work at home jobs for moms at WAHM.com.

Just remember what ever you decide to do make sure you advertise yourself by using business card printing services, flyer's, bulletin boards, and word of mouth to let people know about the services you offer.

How To Be A Stylish Mom

Just because you're a mom doesn't mean that you can't look stylish. I understand that mom's don't want to dress like their teen aged daughters, and their teen aged daughters don't want their mom dressing like them.

It's time to throw those 'mom jeans' away and get a stylish new look! You don't know what to buy or even where to start? Check out the latest mom magazines to see what's new and in, see what your mommy friends are wearing, and you can even google images of your favorite mom celebrity to see what they are wearing.

A lot of times all you need to update your style is purchase a few items. These can include a couple of new tops and fashion jewelry to complete your new look.

Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you have to dress like your mom.

    Nickelodeon Wii Fit Review

For Christmas my 6 year old son got numerous games for the Wii, but his favorite one is the Nickelodeon Wii Fit.

Nickelodeon Fit is an exciting new way for kids to stay physically active as they exercise and engage with their favorite Nickelodeon friends: Dora, Diego, Kai-lan and The Backyardigans. Developed in collaboration with a children’s fitness specialist, Nickelodeon Fit offers 30 exercise games that promote strength, balance, coordination and heart health. Jump rope with The Backyardigans, pogo stick with Dora, go river rafting with Diego, leap over hurdles with Kai-lan, and more! Parents can monitor their child’s physical activity and customize routines to meet their child’s needs. Works with either the Wii Balance Board or the Wii Remote.

My son loves playing this game. It's not only lots of fun to play along side of his favorite characters, but he also loves the fact that it's almost like watching a cartoon. As a mom I love the fact the just because it's winter outside my child is still getting exercise. Nickelodeon Wii Fit is one game that I love my child to ask to play.

This is not a sponsored post. The game was given as a Christmas gift to my son and no form of compensation for this post was received. We just enjoy the game so much that I thought I would share with you about it.

Losing Weight For The New Year

"I want to lose 20 pounds" or "I want to lose 40 pounds" is a common phrase heard this time of year. Many people even make losing weight their New Years resolution. Being overweight is bad for your health, but achieving that weight loss can be a very difficult thing to do. So many of us have tried every diet there is around, we've cut out bread, we've only eaten fruits and vegetables, and still we just can't lose that extra weight.

For those of you who have tried every diet this is around and have found no success then you may want to look in to weight loss pills. I personally have lost over 50 pounds with the aid of a weight loss supplement and have kept the weight off. I do think that daily exercise and healthy eating is a must, but sometimes you need a little extra help in losing those pounds and that where the best weight loss pills can help you get to your ideal weight.

Soup Makes A Great Winter Meal

During these cold winter days a great option for lunch or supper is a bowl of hot soup. There are a lot of great healthy brands of soup out there, but if you prefer you can always make your own soup.

Making your own soup is very simple. All you need is to decide what kind of soup you want. A popular one among children is chicken noodle soup. To make chicken noodle soup you basically need three things, chicken, broth, and noodles. For the chicken you can use leftover chicken from a roasted chicken you had the night before or you can buy a small amount of chicken to cut up and cook for the soup. Broth is available in the soup section and comes in powder cubes you add to water or in liquid form. There is a wide variety of shapes of noodles out there so you can pick one that you think your kids will enjoy.

To make the chicken noodle soup all you have to do is add the noodles to the broth and water and cook and then add the precooked chicken. Heat and enjoy. You can find lots of different soup recipes online.

    Red Rover Game Review

With Christmas vacation still lasting another week where I live I'm very glad my son got lots of games for Christmas to play and keep himself busy and interested over the next week.

One game he received for Christmas was Red Rover. Red Rover is a preschool game in which you pet the dogs nose to activate it. Red Rovers bones are placed around him on the floor and when Red Rover calls out which bone he wants the children run around looking for the right bone to feed him. Not only is the game educational, but it also allows the children to be active.

My son loves this game and is a hit with his cousins as well.
