Happy Halloween

I hope everyone has a happy and fun Halloween! We woke up this morning to snow, which made it look more like Christmas than Halloween. It's going to make trick or treating a little more difficult tonight because of the snow. Are you planning on dressing up with your children? I'm going as a Tim Horton's customer because I'll be carrying and drinking a cup of Tim Horton's coffee as I walk the kids door to door. Hey, I wonder if I'll get treats too? I'll take loose gems, gold and silver bars please. Okay, I'll just settle for candy.

Have a safe and fun Halloween!

Camera Critters #134

Camera Critters is a weekend meme, about what else but critters, created my very own BBFF, Misty.

Yesterday I brought the pumpkins I had on the deck inside to warm up before we carve them today. Avery was very interested in them and crawled all over them. I guess she was deciding which one she wanted to carve.

Proactiv Solutions Products Review

It's first thing in the morning and as you are enjoying your cup of coffee all you hear is your teen aged daughter scream from the bathroom. You drop your coffee, spilling it all over yourself in the process, simply to find out your daughter is not hurt, she did not see a spider, but what she did see is a pimple on her face. You spend the next 10 minutes telling her that "You can really notice it", even if it is huge, and that "No, you can not stay home from school just because you have a zit!". This is something all mothers of teenager girls go through.

One of the most well known and effective acne products on the market is called Proactiv and we recently received two of their many wonderful acne skincare products to try out. As a mother of a teen aged daughter prone to break outs I knew we would definitely be able to put these products through the test.

Proactiv Solutions Makeup Removing Cloths - These are pre-moistened clothes that remove even tough makeup like mascara to help clean the skin so that pores will not get clogged with makeup that result in blemishes. These are great! Not only are they extremely quick and easy to use, but they come in a resealable pouch so that you can take them with you anywhere, which is good for a teen aged girl who often spends nights at her friends houses.

Proactiv Solutions Medicated Blemish Stick - This is a medicated cover-stick that helps to conceal the blemish and heals the blemish at the same time. It comes in four shades so that no matter what your skin color it will blend in perfectly . This is perfect because not only does it help to hid the blemish, which is what every teen aged girl wants, but it also helps to get rid of it, which is also what every teen aged girl wants. It's a win-win situation.

After seeing commercials for Proactiv for a while my teen aged daughter always wanted to try the products. We have tried numerous products in the past, and have even gone to the doctor for medicine for her acne problem. I am happy, no ecstatic to say that Proactiv helped her with her blemishes while so many of the other products she tried did not. Not only did it help, but it worked quickly. Proactiv is definitely a product that I would recommend to anyone with acne problems.

You can find out more information about Proactiv and how to buy it by going to www.proactiv.com.

The products in this review were given to me free of charge for review. My review and opinions are not influenced by this or any source, they are my honest opinion of the product.

Ready For Halloween

Are you already for Halloween? It's only a few days away and the kids are getting so excited! I have the costumes all ready to go and the treats for the trick or treaters all bagged up. If you haven't gotten your candy yet for the trick or treaters then you should hurry up to the store. There are some great sales on them now and they won't last long. If you are going to be walking your child around while trick or treating then I suggest you wear some good comfy athletic shoes like mbt shoes. The last thing you want is to have to cut your child's trick or treating short because your feet hurt.

Organizing Your Basement

A great way to organize your basement is to use lockers. Not only do lockers provide great storage, but they can also help bring a room together. If the basement room you are organizing is the kids playroom then you could use bright colored school lockers in red or blue. They are a great place to keep toys and games off the floor so that your child has room to play and it also keeps the room nice and tidy. If you have a work out area in your basement you use a gym locker to keep all your stuff in. For your husbands workshop area in the basement a locker is a great place to keep his tool belt, safety glasses, etc.

Organizing your basement is always a task that people put off because they don't know where to begin, but with the help of lockers your basement can be organized and tidy in no time. To find lockers for sale simply click this link and start organizing your basement.

Enlarging Your Family Through Adoption

Being a parent is the most wonderful thing anyone can experience. Being a parent means your world is filled with unconditional love, laughter, and happiness. Many people can not have children naturally and as a result adopt children or simply wish to enlarge their family by adopting. I come from a large family of eight children and two of them are adopted. Do I feel any different about them with the rest of my siblings? Yes I do, they are actually two of my favorite siblings of them all. I consider them my siblings just as much as the rest of them and I know my parents loved them just as much as they did rest of us.

Both of my siblings were from private adoptions, but I do know people who have gone through public and foreign adoptions. If you are looking or considering adoption a child then you should check out the Wyoming Children's Society. It's a great adoption agency based in Wyoming that offers public and Russian adoptions.

There are so many children in the world who need people to love them. You can find out more about adoption and about the Wyoming Children's Society by clicking this link.

Halloween Safety Tips

With Halloween only a few days away I thought it would be a great time to again review some Halloween safety tips.

1. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
2. Children should wear clothing that can easily be seen at night. Retro-reflective materials are best.
3. Children should trick or treat in one well-known area and not wander into unknown neighborhoods.
4. All candy should be inspected by an adult to make sure that no one has tampered with it. If it looks suspicious, the police should be contacted.
5. Children should avoid stray animals.
6. Children should wear masks that do not interfere with vision. Better yet, they can avoid masks by wearing makeup.
7. Children should watch for moving vehicles when crossing streets.
8. Costumes should be short enough that the child will not trip.
9. Trick or treaters should dress appropriately for the weather and carry a flashlight.
10. For extra safety, organize a Halloween party for children in your neighborhood.

Free Disney Halloween Pumpkin Templates

With Halloween only a little over a week away it's time to start thinking about getting a pumpkin to crave for a jack-o-lantern. I found some great free Disney character pumpkin carving patterns at Disney Family. They also have some great Halloween crafts, recipes and printables there.

My neighbor has a huge, I mean HUGE pumpkin in their yard and my son wants one just like it. I would have to invest in some creatine or a forklift to be able to lift it. I don't know about getting one that large, but we definitely are going to be be getting some pumpkins to make these great Disney jack-o-lanterns with.

Have You Started Your Christmas Shopping Yet?

If you haven't started your Christmas shopping I suggest you do. I was out at the mall today and it was not only packed, but it was full of Christmas decorations and there were some great sales on. I like to start my Christmas shopping at the first of October so that it gives me plenty of time to find just the right gift and look for sales without having to be rushed. No one wants to have to run the week before Christmas to finish their shopping. The stores are hectic and the variety is low. Just thinking about waiting that long gives me nightmares. I would seriously have to take some natural sleep aids to be able to sleep from worrying about Christmas shopping if I waited any longer than the end of October.

How To Make A Mad Hatter Hat

With Halloween only less than two weeks away if you haven't found or started making your children's costume yet time is quickly running out. The movie Alice In Wonderland was a huge hit this past year and expect to see some characters from the movie out and about trick or treating this year. One character that is very popular is The Mad Hatter. Making a Mad Hatter costume is very hard at all. You simply need a coat, a colorful scarf for a tie and the hat. The hat may be difficult to find, but it's easy to make.

To make The Mad Hatters hat all you need is flexible cardboard, tape, scissors, hot glue gun and sticks or material glue, black and pink material, a black marker, and some white paper.

Use the cardboard to make the tube shape of the hat and use the person who is going to be wearing it as a model for size. Simply cut the right length of cardboard to fit the head, cut a circle for the top of the hat, and a ring for the bottom of the hat. Tape all of these together to make the form of the hat. Glue black material on to the hat.Cut a long piece of pink material to make the ribbon of the hat and attach. Make a small sign that says 10/6 and stick that in the band of the hat. Viola, you have a mad hatter hat!

Need A Halloween Costume, Simply Google It

I love Google! You can find anything on there from colon cleanse to rocket ships. One thing I recently used Google for was to help make my sons Halloween costume.

My son loves video games and one that he really likes is The Legend Of Zelda games from Nintendo. This year for Halloween he decided he wanted to be Link, the hero from the game. All I had to do was Google images for Link to find out what he looked like and I came up with this one.

On Google there was even some Link costumes that other people made to give me an idea of how to make the costume. The end result of my son's costume was this.

I made him his tunic, which I had to make a little on the big side in order for it to fit over his Winter coat as it gets near freezing here at nights now. I also made his shield, boots, belt, sword holder, the belt, a rupee bag for his belt, and the hat. The only thing I had to buy was the sword. All of the materials I used in making the costume I had on hand so all I had to pay for his costume was $2.99 for the sword.

Aidan loves his costume, although he might not look it in this picture, but that's because I told him he had to take it off and couldn't sleep in it. He loves it so much that he constantly wants to wear it. Thank you Google for helping me make this costume for my son.

I remember as a child sitting on my grandfather's porch listening to him and his friends talk while they smoked their pipes and cigars. They talked about farming, the old days, and the weather. I remember them talking about the sky and if it was pink at night it would be nice the next day and if it was pink in the morning a storm was coming. I guess they were right because I took this picture yesterday morning and now we are supposed to get a Nor'Easter this weekend.

Why I Love Being A Stay-At-Home Mom

Being a stay-at-home mother is definitely not as exciting or fancy as having one of those high finance jobs. It's not as glamorous as being an actress or model. It doesn't pay as good as being a lawyer or doctor, but one thing it does have that all those other jobs don't is being able to spend all my time with my children. Being a full time mother is very important to me. Growing up both of my parents worked. With eight kids, I guess they both had to work to be able to afford us. With both of them working it meant that they weren't able to spend a lot of quality time with us. Because of this I felt like I wasn't as close to my parents as I wanted to be. When I became a mother I knew I wanted to be able to stay at home and spend as much time with my children as possible. Thankfully since we only have two children and my husband has an adequate job I am able to do that.

Another great thing about being a stay-at-home mom is that when I'm sick I don't have to call in sick. I supposed I could call myself and explain to myself that I'm sick, but that would just be an awkward conversation.

Choosing The Right Mattress For A Better Sleep

Being a mother means many things, but one thing all us mothers can agree upon is that being a mother often means not getting enough sleep. With so many responsibilities mothers have we often put ourselves on the back burner. We stay up late doing laundry, putting school lunches up, and taking care of our sick children. Because mothers often don't get enough sleep it's important to make sure the sleep they do get is a good sleep. Having a good quality mattress is extremely important in getting a good nights sleep. If you are only able to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night you shouldn't have to spend an hour of that time tossing and turning on an uncomfortable mattress.

When choosing the right mattress for you the best bet is to look for a well known brand like a Sealy mattress. Sealy offers a variety of types of mattresses, but I prefer their Posturepedic mattresses. When I was pregnant with my last child I found it so hard to get comfortable in bed and my back ached so much that sleep was nearly impossible due to the mattress we had. As a result of this we went out and purchased a Sealy Posturepedic mattress and ever since then I have never had a bad nights sleep. I love the soft top so that it feels very comfy, but yet it still gives the back support you need.

Another great mattress brand is Stearns and Foster. They offer high quality top of the line mattresses. Not only are they considered a luxury mattress, but because the coils are individually wrapped they are extremely comfortable to sleep on.

Getting the proper nights sleep is extremely important and having a good mattress is the first step in getting that good nights sleep.

Getting Your Child To Listen To You

Getting your kids to listen to you can sometimes be like talking to a brick wall. You can repeat yourself over dozens of times, but they still won't listen to you. This is especially true when you are telling them to either do something or not to do something.

Sure when you tell your kids it's time for ice cream they hear you just fine, but when you tell them it's time for them to pick up their toys they seem to develop a hearing problem. No you don't need an audiometer to check their hearing, they can hear you just fine, they just don't want to hear you. What you need to do is get down to their level, look them in the eyes, and explain to them in a calm authoritative voice what you want them to do. Doing this allows them to know that they don't have an option to listen to you and you know that they heard.

Bounty Paper Towel

The wonderful people at Bounty Paper Towels loves kids so much and are such a wonderful help to mothers that they sent me a Bounty Monster Mess Craft Package, pictured here, which included not only some great craft supplies for the kids to make some wonderful Halloween crafts, they also included some Bounty paper towel for me to help clean up after. Kids love to make crafts and of course while making these crafts they also make a huge mess, that's where Bounty comes in. Bounty paper towel makes cleaning up that mess a lot easier.

The Bounty Monster Mess Craft Package included glue, glitter, markers, cupcake holders, suckers, a Halloween decoration, and double pack of Bounty Paper Towels, the Original Picker Upper, white and Bounty Extra Soft Paper Towels.

The kids had an amazing time using the supplies in The Bounty Monster Mess Craft Package!

They made bat cupcakes.

And lots and lots of Halloween pictures

As you can see in these photos that they kids made a huge mess. There was cake batter and icing all over my counter. On my table there was glue, paint, and glitter everywhere! My kitchen was a huge mess, but thanks to Bounty Paper Towels it didn't stay that way for long. Simply with some water and Bounty Paper Towel the mess was soon cleaned up. What I liked the most about the Bounty Paper Towel is that I didn't have to use sheet after sheet after sheet like most paper towel. I was able to simply rinse the Bounty Paper Towel off in the sink and keep using it. It was like using a cloth to clean that I simply could throw away after I was done.

I've used paper towel in the past and found that I went through it so quickly that I was constantly buying more of it. With Bounty Paper Towels it takes less paper towels to clean up a mess. Not only does Bounty Paper towels help you clean up, but it also saves you money by using less. In my opinion Bounty Paper Towels is a mom's best friend!

Saving Money While Staying Warm

The cold weather season is upon us and it's just going to get colder. With the price of fuel and electricity rising so high we all wonder how we can stay warm and cozy for less? One thing I do to combat the high cost of heating is to keep the furnace turned down to a minimal and use a portable electric heater in the living room, which is the room we are usually all in. Not only does this keep your heating bill down, but the cost of running a portable electric heater costs less than turning your furnace on to heat room that you are not using at the time. If you don't have a portable electric heater or are looking for a new one then you can find a great Heater Home coupon code for 7% off all orders.

Stay warm this winter and save money while doing it!

How To Save Money On Your Printer Ink

I go through a lot of ink for my printer. I have a teen aged daughter in high school and it seems like every week there is a couple of essays, homework and reports that needs to be typed up and printed out. I also use my printer for printing out things for my son who is in kindergarten. I print out coloring pages, educational stuff that includes how to print and add worksheets. Because of this constant printing I go through ink constantly. Let's face it, ink can be very expensive, even if it's just black ink for printing out documents.

During special occasions like birthdays and Christmas I use my printer to print out invitations and my holiday Christmas cards. Printing out these things uses up a lot of colored ink and we all know that colored ink cartridges costs more than black ink cartridges. It seems that I am constantly buying ink cartridges.

In order to combat the high costs of buying ink cartridges I found this great website called InkCartridge.com that has both an amazing selection of inkjet printer ink cartridges and great prices. For my printer I can buy three cartridges at this website for what I would pay for two of them at my local store. I also have a problem sometime finding the cartridge for my printer at my local store as they are either always all sold out or don't carry them. InkCartridge.com has the widest selection of ink cartridges that I have ever seen so you will definitely be able to find the right cartridge for your printer whatever brand it is. They even offer free shipping on orders over $50.

So whether you use your printer for printing off documents, pictures for your child's homework, holiday cards or invitations you can save yourself a lot of money on printer ink by checking out InkCartridge.com for all your printer ink needs.

Camera Critters #131

Camera Critters is a weekend meme, about what else but critters, created my very own BBFF, Misty.

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and this past week has been a very busy one. So busy that I never got any animal pictures for Camera Critters. I was telling my family that I needed a picture of an animal and my son told me I could take a picture of his turkey he made. I told him I thought Misty would love to see a picture of it and he asked if she wanted him to make her one too.

Aidan was so excited about me using his turkey for Camera Critters that he had to sit down with me at my laptop and help me write this post.

So Misty, Aidan wants to know if you want him to make you a turkey?

These are NOT just your everyday headphones. Not only are they extremely comfortable, they sound great as well because of they are stereo bass-enhanced. They have a cool design on them that my teen aged daughter loves. She not only uses them for her MP3 player, but she also uses them while on her laptop. I love the fact that because they cover her whole ear that what she is listening to is only heard by her.

If you are looking for the perfect gift for the American Idol fan for Christmas, or you simply need a new pair of headphones than the American Idol Performance Series Headphones are a great option and at the price of only $29.99 they are a great price. You can find more about these headphones by going to www.IdolPerformanceSeries.com and they are sold exclusively at Amazon.com.

Rice Krispy Treats Jack-O-Lanterns

With Halloween coming up the kids wanted to make a craft or make a treat so I decided why not do both at the same time. I googled around and found a great idea here for a Rice Krispy Jack-O-Lantern. We decided to change it up a bit as this recipe makes one large Rice Krispy Jack-O-Lantern and the kids wanted to make individual ones.

The recipe is pretty much a standard Rice Krispy Squares recipe that we all have with a couple of exceptions.

Here is the recipe we used.

Ingredients -
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (about 40) marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • orange food coloring (if you don't have orange simply mix red and yellow together
  • decorations such as chocolate chips, candies, or icing to make the faces
  • butter or margarine for hand to shape pumpkins
Directions -
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Add food coloring until you get the desired shade of orange you want. Remove from heat.
2. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Butter up your hands and shape mixture into balls/pumpkin shapes. Be careful to let the mixture cool a bit first before you do this as it is very hot.
4. After your have your shapes decorate them.

My son and niece had a great time making these ones and although I think they went a little overboard with the chocolate chips I think they turned out pretty good and most importantly the kids had a great time making them and eating them!
