Saving Max Book Review

I'm an avid reader and I read a wide variety of books, from fiction to do-it-yourself books. I recently got the chance to review the book Saving Max, by Antoinette van Heugten and I have to tell you it was an amazing book.

About the book -

Single mother Danielle Parkman is stretched thin and she knows it. A successful attorney, Danielle works grueling hours for her clients and still miraculously finds time to devote to her teenage son Max, who has Asperger’s syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. But lately her son’s violent outbursts have tested the limits of her parenting abilities, forcing her to seek outside help. Desperate for guidance, Danielle brings Max to a psychiatric hospital for a full-assessment in hopes of finding a solution that will put an end to his volatile behavior.

However, Max’s treatment is thrown off-course when Danielle finds him unconscious and covered in blood with a murdered patient by his side. Max quickly becomes the prime suspect and Danielle must find the killer to absolve her son. But the search brings unexpected pressures, and as Danielle begins to examine her choices as a mother, she soon realizes Max’s problems may be greater than anyone could have imagined.

About the Author -

Antoinette van Heugten is familiar with the challenges that come with raising autistic children. A mother of three, two with autism, van Heugten has always been an advocate for her children in a world where few people understood their disorder. My thoughts about the book -

I have a nephew that has Asperger’s and another one that has Autism so when I had the opportunity to review this book I jumped at it. At first I thought it was just going to be a book about a mother and her son's battle with this disease, but it's not just about that. It's about a mothers love for her child and how she would do anything to protect him. Of course there is lots about Asperger's and how children with this disease are treated, but it is more about the mothers love for her child. As a mother myself I can totally relate to this. I know there isn't anything I wouldn't do for my child either. Saving Max, by Antoinette van Heugten, is considered a Fiction/Suspense book, but it's much more than that. It's is a book that will appeal to all mothers. It shows us the extent of a mothers love for her child, something that all mothers can relate to.
