Getting Your Kids To Eat More Fish

We all know that fish is healthy for us, but getting your kids to eat fish can sometimes be an uphill battle. Me, my husband, and our teen aged daughter loves fish, but our five year old son is a totally different story. I've tried just about everything to get him to eat fish, including cutting it up and telling him it's chicken, without any success. That was until I got some great recipes from Van de Kamps Seafood and Mrs. Pauls Seafood.

When kids do eat fish it's usually fish sticks that they like. Both Mrs. Pauls and Van De Kamps fish sticks are made with 100% whole white fish fillets, not that mushed up stuff pressed together like other brands. You know you are getting quality and great taste with Mrs. Pauls and Van de Kamps.

Here are two great recipes from Van de Kamps and Mrs. Pauls that your kids are going to love. My five year old really enjoyed them.

ZESTY FISH STICK CRESCENT ROLLS

Ingredients:

4 Van de Kamp’s® or Mrs. Paul’s® Fish S. caul’

1 can refrigerated Crescent Rolls

4 teaspoons mustard

1 tablespoon butter, melted in microwave

Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Separate the crescent roll dough into 4 pieces. Place a fish stick on the wide end of each roll. Add a teaspoon of mustard to each fish stick. Roll up the fish sticks so most of the fish stick is covered in the dough. Brush the dough with the melted butter. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

FISH STICKS IN A BLANKET

Ingredients:

8 Van de Kamp’s® or Mrs. Paul’s® Fish S. caul’baked

4 Taco-sized Flour Tortillas

4 pieces, Cheddar Cheese (or use your favorite)

4 tablespoons ketchup

Directions: Bake the fish sticks according to package. Heat up the tortillas so they’re nice and toasty. Add 1 cheese slice in the center of each tortilla. Spread the ketchup around tortilla, add 2 fish sticks on top of the cheese, fold and roll the tortilla around the fish stick.

I love fish. I love seafood. I grew up on the stuff. My girls were different. Their father didn't like fish, and hence I rarely cooked fish at home. So when it came time to eat fish they would turn their noses up at it. It frustrated the heck out of me. They would occasionally eat fish and chips if we went to the beach....but not very often. It just wasn't their thing. As adults they are slowly expanding their culinary pallate. Not sure theya are ready to try Sushi baby steps!

Very crafty ideas. I love the crescent roll idea. I will definitely try this with my daughter. I work from home and am very lucky to be able to spend precious time with my three year old daughter but she is a picky eater and this may give her a fresh take on fish sticks. Thanks!
