HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY YOUR BABYSITTER

We don't get a babysitter often. We just never seem to go out anywhere and when we do we end up bringing the kids with us. Aurora is 14 so she doesn't need a babysitter any more, so it's just Aidan we would need a sitter for. I think in the last 3 years that we have only had a babysitter four times. Those four times have been my mother-in-law once when we took Aurora to a movie when Aidan was an infant and the other three times was my sister Sharla, once when Aurora was in the hospital, once when I had to had to have a medical procedure, and once when we went out for a few hours. This lack of getting a babysitter has led me to the question "What do you pay a babysitter these days?" My daughter is 14 and so yes she does babysit her brother for me when I'm sick or I'm busy doing work, but I don't really consider her a "babysitter" because it's her 4 year old brother she's watching at home. Do I pay her for this babysitting of her little brother? Of course I do, I figure I'm going to end up giving her money for whatever she wants or needs anyway and this way it is like she is earning her own money and learning responsibility. I pay her $5 an hour for watching her little brother for me and if she has a friend over I pay her friend $5 and hour also for helping to babysit. So my question again is , how much do you pay your babysitter?

We don't often pay for a babysitter because we have family close by. The few times I have though, I was astounded at the cost. I have 4 children and was told that you should pay $8/hr and $1/hr extra per extra kid! That would be $11/hr for us! No, thank you!

I woudl say 5 bucks is a good price but if there was two I would pay maybe 7 and have them split it.. that way she is less inclned to have her friend and pay more attention to the baby. but that is me....

So far, I didn't have to think about babysitter yet, because I'm a young man at the age of early 20s and didn't married yet. :)

I have been married for almost 13 years, and we have never used a sitter. If I need someone to watch the kids, my mom or another family member do it.

This is the first time that we have been really relying on a babysitter. She is coming here today to watch Blake while we go to the dance rehearsal and has offered to come along to Halifax with us to watch Blake during the competition as well. She is great!
We pay $5 an hour also but I find myself paying her a bit more when I hand over the money. I guess that's because I appreciate what she is doing for us.

Last week she watched Blake for 3 hrs so $15 is what I paid her...and I felt guilty. normaly I would have paid her another $5 but I knew she would be coming back every Sunday for the next few weeks.

It's nice to get out once in awhile without the kids! I only wish I had done this much sooner...and the kids love it too :o)

sorry about the long comment...I was wondering about this myself last night!

I haven't paid a sitter in about four years, but the girl was content with five bucks an hour. My daughter sits a regular job every week and gets twenty bucks every time, regardless of the hours. It all evens out over time.

It doesn't matter how much I offer to pay - everyone refuses to babysit Tag.

Paying babysitters can be a pain in the ****!!! Thank God I have my mother who is taking care of the children when I go to work, anyway, I am working part time now, so, I have more time with the kids.

Wow, I don't even know. Amber charges other people $5 an hour. I don't always give her money when she watches her siblings and when I do I just give her a lump sum -- pretty much whatever I can afford or any extra. Now her friend has babysat for us and I believe I gave her $5 an hour. The only other people that have "watched" the kids are freinds that I return the favor for.

I know if I take the baby to the sitter for the day it's $35 (drop in rate) and I can bring her as early as 6 a.m. if I need to, but I usually take her about 9 and pick up around 5. Hope this helps.
