CAMERA CRITTERS #2

There was some debate on which picture to post for this weeks Camera Critters. I had it narrowed down to two different pictures, but I decided to go with this one mainly because I have no idea what the heck this animal is. This is a picture of something my daughter saw at Disney's Animal Kingdom. She thinks it's a Long Horn Steer, but isn't sure. Does anybody know what the heck kind of animal this is?

Being cattle farmers, you'd think that either Hubs or I would have known what this is... but neither one of us have a clue! That thing sure does have quite the rack on it! hehehe I could make a comment to my BBFF, but I'll behave myself ahahahaha

Wow...that's one big long horn. Looks like the sort of cattle raised in Africa to me. Possibly the Ankole Longhorn. Nice shot!

Amazing creature, splendidly the two..... swords! Great post!

I've decided it is a longhorned steer, but I know even less about cattle than the average person, which is very very little. Cool, though.

I'm not so sure myself. Those horns don't look so real. Is it some kind of YAK?

Stay out from in front of him! Those would so hurt. I wonder if he's top heavy?

Is that a photo she took? i don't have a clue as those horns are huge. seems like it would have a hard time walking with that kind of a rack

I like misty's comment about it's "rack" and then the reference to a certain someone! LOL!!

And I have no idea what that is, other then what you said, some kinda bull or something.

Yes, it's a Longhorn Steer. I believe they are a Texas breed. Here's a picture of a different one. http://www.biosurvey.ou.edu/okwild/misc/images/longhorn.jpg

Great picture

That's a neat picture, but I don't know what it is exactly either. Kinda looks like a steer, but I'm not sure. A good post for this weeks meme.

I never saw a cow with that big a set of horns. I think it's from Africa also. Great picture.

Katney said...

I don't think it is a longhorn steer such as they have in Texas. The horns of the Texas Longhorn go out straighter from the side of the head and don't appear as heavy near the head. I would bet it comes from Afria.

Oh my! Those horns are really long. Great photo.

Yikes! That sure is a set of horns. I am surprised he can even keep his head up.

It looks a lot like a breed of cattle called "Rooi Afrikaner" commonly farmed in Southern Africa - this one is an ox, but the horns seems a bit long, so it must be something similar that one finds there in America.

That was one of my favorite animals on the Animal Kingdom tour. I have no idea what it is though.

The horns are so big it's as if the photo is photoshopped! Amazing he can stand up with those. Fantastic photo. Has to be long horn bull.

Indrani said...

Wow what an animal and what loely horns it has. Great snap.

Stacey said...

Danggggggggg that's one long set of horns. I'd sure hate to be in his way! I think you make a great choice today.

And (I'm Louie's Mom) he would just adore you as well, I'm sure...he's such a lover dog.

Gattina said...

Fortunately for him wearing horns has not the same meaning as for humans, lol !

Stine said...

No - can't help with the name - it's certainly a long horn something, though...
Great choice!

Hi Tammy. Those are certainly large horns. Anyone would be quite scared to go near that guy.

Thank you for visiting my other blog.

It's a "Well-Horned Beastie!" Those are very rare on my planet. ;)

I don't know what it is, but I do know it is not Texas Longhorn. I'd say far more likely from Africa. I looked around the 'net' at several breeds of African cattle, and this is the closest I came to the one in your photo...
http://www.biw.kuleuven.be/dp/I374/afrocattle/ppframe.htm

Not saying it's the same, but far closer than the Texas Longhorn... and no doubt he's a bull.

Anyway, it is a fantastic photo of an amazing looking animal.
