HAPPY PANCAKE DAY

Today is Shrove Tuesday or what some like to call Pancake Tuesday. It is the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Why do we eat pancakes on this day you ask, well basically it is an old tradition. Wikipedia definition is this.

The reason that pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent is that the 40 days of Lent form a period of liturgical fasting, during which only the plainest foodstuffs may be eaten. Therefore, rich ingredients such as eggs, milk, and sugar are disposed of immediately prior to the commencement of the fast. Pancakes and doughnuts were therefore an efficient way of using up these perishable goods, besides providing a minor celebratory feast prior to the fast itself.

And since tomorrow is the first day of Lent I have to decide what to give up for Lent. It'll probably be sweets. I'm off to make pancakes.

Mmmmm....pancakes. I could eat these for dinner any day. And what a great way to start off Lent I'd say! We used to do this when we were little but I guess I haven't kept up with the tradition very well. Now I know what I'm making for dinner!

I just told my kids that it's Pancake Tuesday and the daughter says, "I don't want to have pancakes tonight." I am very sad.

I had left over french toast...which I kind of prefer. I also had a small piece of brownie to last me through Lent.

I didn't do pancakes this year...

The main reason being I was lazy, but also they are way too nice and calorific!
