NUMBER 1 RULE FOR COMPUTERS

I've discovered the number 1 rule for computers, NEVER EVER EVER let your teen aged daughter and her friend use your computer! When I got up this morning my daughter and her friend were on my computer, her father told her it was okay for her and her friend to use it. About five minutes later I heard, "Uh-oh! Mom something is wrong with the computer!" I have no idea what they did, but it wouldn't let me access any internet websites. It took all day to fix it and I never would have been able to fix it if my husband hadn't called his friend and asked him what to do. Thanks D, you are my computer hero! Needless to say I don't think my daughter or her friends will ever be allowed to touch the computer again.

I hate for other people to touch my computer, too.

So, did he tell you what it was they did to cause all those problems?

My kids are only alloewed to use mine when I am right here.

Glad you got it all figured out!

Glad you were able to fix it. I have no clue what they could have done to cause that...unless they changed the settings on your firewall. Is that what they did?

I once went away for a few weeks and when I got back home I discovered that my sisters had been coming in my room and using my computer...they downloaded a program on it to download music and did a few other things I think. Plus they went through my stuff and "borrowed" some cd's and nail polish. Needless to say, a few days after I got home my dad put a new doorknob with a key lock on it so I could keep it locked when I'm not at home.

Yea, it's hands off the computer here for the younger ones, but I normally let the teenager use it. It didn't use to be that way though when I had a desktop; she was always doing something to it. After a few "no touching" restrictions she got her act together and stopped downloading stuff and just clicking everything!

BTW: congratulations on the domain... I will change the links first thing tomorrow!

Changed the link to you from our bar.

My apple laptop is off limits to the kids. They get to use the old pc desktop, that way when they screw it up it's no loss to me ;)

They were probably downloading Nickleback music. You never know what kind of viruses Chad Kroeger has.

Heh, I don't even let the Hubs touch my new laptop ;-) He says I'm not very good at sharing LOL

Funny. I was quite adept with computers in my teen years. And even if I broke something, I always knew the cause.

The kids have the old computer to play with but it's no fun without the internet and everytime Jay gets on the computer we are cursing at it for days...I think it's hands off from now on...sorry Jay!

Question for you tammy...At the top of all your post about your own domain...what do you need to do to get it to stay there...is it just something in your template or once again something I'm missing.

take care

Hi! I just found your blog, I really enjoyed reading it and will be back!

This post cracked me up. My mom has her sister and kids with her about 3x a year (they live 8 hrs away). When her kids come, my sister's kids also hand out a lot because they are similar ages. The computer is a place they often congregate.

My mom had the absolute WORST time with the computer after the kids had a weekend using it. This would happen EVERY SINGLE TIME they visited. Strange things would be missing (like her search bar in IE), or the colors were all changed or the wallpaper, or the fonts or many other little things. Some things were nothing big. Some required a call to a computer help line! She used to get SO mad.

The kids are much older now, so they don't seem to do that anymore, but she was never ever able to pin down who did the adjustments. And my mom is NOT computer literate at all, so she would end up calling me after they left completely freaked and confused.

I never understood why she never make the computer off limits!
